2011 is the third year in a row Adventures with Purpose has been honored with the prestigious Lowell Thomas Gold Award for excellence in broadcast journalism. Adventures with Purpose-Hong Kong: Quest for the Dragon was named as a 2011 Gold Award winner at ceremonies in New Zealand on November 10.

The annual competition is sponsored by the Society of American Travel Writers Foundation and the awards are the most prestigious in the field of travel journalism. This is the 27th Lowell Thomas competition and drew more than 1,200 entries. Judges were the faculty at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

The SATW Foundation sponsors the annual Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition. The competition began in 1985 and today awards more than $18,000 annually in prize money for outstanding print, online and multimedia works and for travel photography and both audio and video broadcast. It is the premier competition in North America in the field of travel journalism and has gained its stature for several reasons, most notably:

  • it does not promote any particular destination or travel product,
  • it is open to all North American journalists, not just SATW members, and
  • it is judged independently by the faculty at top U.S. schools of journalism.

Adventures with Purpose does much more than show us the sights of Hong Kong — it helps us understand what makes Hong Kong one of the world’s great cities, noting that its ‘uninhibited energy is as clear as rice wine.’ A very high production quality, including great photography and quick editing pace, combines with the expert voice to guide us through what we’re about to see.”

Among other winners, Rick Steves, leading American travel guidebook writer, blogger, social media personality and TV/radio host, is Travel Journalist of the Year. Arthur Frommer’s Budget Travel magazine, the Los Angeles Times and the San Francisco Chronicle win top honors as the best travel publications in North America. National Geographic Traveler takes five awards, including best travel website and best cultural tourism article. Outside magazine also collects five awards, including best adventure travel and best investigative stories.

Positive World Travel was created by us-couple Anthony Milotic and Elise Reeks. We are two Australians who worked hard at saving for 3 years and while these years of saving were to be for a house, in the end, we decided rather than a mortgage we  wanted use that money to travel the world! So thats what we did! We quit our jobs, packed and sold many of our belongings and started our indefinite travels around the world.

Anthony is a Chef by trade and I am a Primary School Teacher and we both strongly believe that travelling allows us to not only explore these passions further but to discover new ones too.

We have both always loved to travel and have been overseas many times before we met one another, so when we travel together it is always a great adventure!

We love to learn about the world, how others live their lives, find people and places difference to our own, enjoy these experiences, then take it all and live the most positive life we can!

MOTION

Explore the outdoors on the road less-traveled with Greg Aiello. Watch new episodes of Motion Sunday nights at 7/6c. For more info visitwww.livewellnetwork.com.
Description
Motion empowers viewers to explore the great outdoors, embrace nature and get active outdoors.

Host Greg Aiello grew up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California near Yosemite National Park. At an early age, he and his older brother, Jeff (producer of Motion) ventured into the High Sierra to explore, backpack, fish and climb.

At 21, Greg went to work in the television industry as writer/producer for local broadcast affiliates around the country including WJXT in Jacksonville, Florida and KPHO in Phoenix. But his love for the mountains brought him back to California where he left the TV business behind to become a professional mountain guide specializing in long-duration trips on the famous John Muir Trail which runs from Yosemite to Mt. Whitney in the southern range of the Sierra.

As an accomplished mountaineer, Greg’s experience in the backcountry bushcraft is deep. In addition to his extensive time in California’s mountains, Greg has summited Mt. Aconcogua in Argentina, climbed in the southern Alps of New Zealand, ventured through Australia’s outback, explored the jungles of Costa Rica and spent 10 days on the Galapogos Islands in the Pacific.

Today, Greg lives in the central Sierra Nevada Mountains of California where he still guides when he’s not filming for Motion. He also enjoys snowboarding in the winter, playing his guitar, songwriting and traveling… go figure!
